DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

The Department of Commerce established in the year 1967 at Mathabhanga College enjoys an excellent reputation for the excellence of its teaching in this dynamic discipline. It ranks highly-rated departments in commerce among the undergraduate colleges of this region. The department is supported by a dedicated team of faculties who aim at effectively delivering a course in Commerce, which is prominent for uniformly maintaining its standards of academic excellence over the years. The quality of students in the undergraduate programme is commendable. The undergraduate programme in Commerce specially aims at shaping the higher academic skills of the students. Presently the Departments have three permanent faculties and two SACT faculties.

Programme Outcome:

  • This programme provide well trained professionals for Industries, Insurance Companies, Transport Agencies, Banking sectors, Financial companies, Warehousing etc. to meet the well trained manpower requirements.  The graduates will get hands on experience in various aspects acquiring skills for
  • Marketing Manager, Selling Manager, over all Administration abilities of the company.  It provides students with the knowledge and technical skills in the accounting and in financial fields.

Programme Specific Outcome  

The students should possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes during the end of the B.com degree course.  By virtue of the training they can become an Manager, Accountant, Management, Accountant, Bank Manager, Company Secretary, Professor etc.

Course Outcomes

  • The student should have a thorough knowledge on the accounting practice prevailing· in partnership forms and other allied aspects.  
  • On the successful completion of this subject the students acquires the knowledge· about the various types of business organizations and office management.  
  • To enable the students to learn principles and concepts of Accountancy.
  • The students are enabled with the knowledge in the practical applications of accounting.  
  • The students should be well versed in the fundamental concepts of auditing, entrepreneur, knowledge in the finance institution, project report incentives and subsidies.
  •  This course aims to provide an in-depth knowledge on the provisions of Income Tax and to familiarize with recent amendments in Income-Tax.  
  • To keep the students conversant with the ever-enlarging frontiers of Cost Accounting knowledge.  
  • The student should be able to work efficiently in MS-PowerPoint and Tally.
  • This course enables the students with the knowledge about the Capital budgeting, Working capital, cash management and financial management techniques.  
  • The student acquires the knowledge in the Management Accounting Techniques in business decision making.  
  • To understand the nature of human resources and its significance to the organization

SEMINAR AND WEBINARS

A UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Consumer Awareness and Rights in India was jointly organized by the Department of Political Science and Department of Commerce from 15th- 18th March 2019.

On 5th March, 2022, Dept. Of Commerce, Mathabhanga College organised one day national webinar on Financial Empowerment through wealth creation. The programme was conducted by Joint Convener Mr. Dipankar Karmakar. He addressed all the dignitaries with warm welcome. 

Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sulagna Dutta, Teacher-in-Charge, Mathabhanga College. In her address she mentioned the importance of Financial empowerment and various aspects of financial portfolios. She appreciated the initiative that Dept. Of commerce had taken. 

Key note address was given by Mr.Surya Kant Sharma, Sr. Consultant, AMFI & DGM, SEBI. In his keynote address he explained various financial portfolios. He emphasized on how to manage earnings in various financial instruments. He mentioned importance of the mutual fund, various SIP, LIC and health insurance and different securities. He tried to cover all aspects of financial portfolio system. Mr. Ranjit Saibya, Assistant Professor of Commerce and also Joint Convener of this national Webinar delivered valedictory address. In the valedictory session he thanked all the dignitaries, participants and College authority for their active cooperation.
